AUSTRALIAN MATCH REPORTS
BUSH RANGERS BUSHWACKED BY BANDITS - posted 19 July 2010
Round four of the First Division Night League was touted as going to be a clash of the Titans as the Bush Rangers were undefeated, but, unfortunately for the Bush Rangers they were minus their top gun Joel Chadwick who would have made a huge difference. The Bush Rangers were holding their own being only four points down up to race 10 but then the full strength Bandits scored a few 6-4s and 7-3s to pull away to win by a comfortable 23 points. As the Bush Rangers were more than 12 points down they were claiming grids one and three ('Mercy Rule') from race 15.

The Second Division Night League woke everyone up as the youngsters battled each other in a very tight match with the Bush Rangers just one point in front as they went into the last race with Scott Kinross and Braden Makepeace up against Mark Sheldon and Shane Bentley who took the last with a 7-3 giving the Bandits a three point victory, Bandits winning 61-58.
BRILLIANT RACING IN INTERCLUB TWO - posted 19 July 2010
Interclub Two was held at LeFevre last Saturday with a special parade and minute silence for Bill Rufus prior to the start. After a few weeks of rain and dark skies the sun come out to spread some sunshine over the track which produced brilliant racing from all riders of all three clubs involved.
Findon Comets won the day by nine points from Salisbury Jets with LeFevre Dolphins in third spot. There is no doubt that Bill would have been very proud of his beloved LeFevre Dolphins as they fought the might of the Comets and Jets in the younger grades.
There are three Interclub Meetings throughout the year and it is the best of three that wins the Interclub Shield. As Findon Comets have won the first two meetings, they have retained the Shield and Round Three at Salisbury on August 14th is a 'dead rubber'. There are eight Divisions in each Team. Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 18, Over 30 and Division 1. Each Division has 2 riders with a Reserve/Swing rider. There are three 'run-throughs' of racing with two riders from each club in each race (six on the grid). All riders score points so the scoring 6,5,4,3,2,1.
You could sense that the Jets meant business when, after the first round of races, they were only one point behind the Comets. Round two saw the Comets increase that lead to only seven points and at the end of the final round the Comets were 186 to the Jets 177 and the Dolphins 139.
Racing in all Divisions was fast and furious with a number of aggressive encounters to keep everyone on their toes. Congratulations to all riders on a brilliant meeting.
BRILLIANT CHADWICK WINS O'NEILL MEMORIAL - posted 8 July 2010
The Brian O'Neill Memorial held at Findon was on in brilliant style by the very popular Salisbury rider Joel Chadwick with his equally popular brother Cody in second place, Matt Gentle third and Bobby McMillan in fourth.
Joel has the uncanny ability to read the race and make very quick decisions. This gift, along with his incredible power, makes him one of the best riders in the World today. Joel scored 15 points out 20 to take the title. Going into the final race it was Cody on 12 points and Joel on 11 but Cody had grid six and failed to win a point and with Joel on grid three he went on to take the win and the honours.
Only six riders nominated for the event but this made the racing more aggressive and intense as they all fought for that extra position in the five allocated races. When the racing and points are so close this leads to riders taking that 'extra' chance which inevitably causes pileups, and there were plenty of them with the most spectacular being when Shane Weinert practically went over the fence.
The racing was close in all grades but as usual there are grades that shine above the others. Division Three Under 13 was a close fought contest between Shane Bentley (1st) Trent Forester (2nd) and Ryan Greenhalgh (3rd).
Division Seven was dominated by Elias Mimidas who took first place and did not drop a point all day. Karah Schultz didn't drop a point in the Division Six with Matt Snowden finishing second in the sudden death final.
The Division four sudden death final was won by Shane Bentley with the ever improving Ryan Greenhalgh in second followed by Trent Forester in third and Braden Makepeace in fourth. Lindsay Jolly took out the Girls Under 13 grade with Jess Snowden in second.
The Ladies 13 years and over was won convincingly by Nicole Kinross and her sister Sarah in second place. It was Sarah though who provided the highlights in this grade with some great challenges. In the Over 30's there were a few pile-ups throughout the heats but the top honours went to Nigel Greenhalgh and Rob Fleming in second. Tony Bax took out the Division Two trophy but during the heats it was Jay Walters second and Scott Kinross third who provided the entertainment.
FIRST BLOOD TO BUSH RANGERS - posted 3 June 2010
There has been a little 'tweaking' of the Night League teams to make them more even now that there is $1,000 purse for the Premiership winner. Due to this adjustment it was decided to re-start the Night League afresh giving all riders equal opportunity in sharing in the prize.
Round one of the Night League at Findon was won convincingly by reigning Premiers Bush Rangers over The Bandits by 17 points. The Bandits were minus Cody Chadwick who has been out of racing for a few weeks after crushing his knee in a crash at the Indoor Go-Kart Centre. There is a long way to go before the finals and the Bandits will strike back with some extra depth being added to their team.
Bush Rangers 98 Joel Chadwick 19, Daniel Bax 17, Ross Priest 15, Shane Weinert 12, Paul White 10, Tony Bax 9, Scott Kinross 8, Robbie Vella 8 Bandits 81 Matt Gentle 18, Ty Geertsen 15, Daniel Thompson 13, Mark Sheldon 11, Jay Walters 8, Cameron Crisp 7, Rob Fleming 6, Darren Mathews 3. GEERTSEN'S VICTORY IN AUSSIE CHAMPIONSHIP - posted 4 May 2010
Ty Geertsen is the new South Australian champion after defeating Matt Gentle, Bobby McMillan and Cody Chadwick in a sudden death four lap final.
13 riders contested the 12 heats in the Division One grade with the top four scorers lining up in the Grand Final. As Ty was the top scorer in the heats with 13 points (from four races) he had the first grid choice in the Final and took grid one. Bobby McMillan, Matt Gentle, Cameron Crisp and Cody Chadwick all scored 12 points and so had to have a run-off for the other three places on the finals grid. McMillan won the run-off after coming out of grid one and pulled away from the field as they were battling each other to simply finish in the top three.
After some hustling Gentle got into second leaving Chadwick and Crisp vying for the last spot. Crisp got into trouble after connecting with Chadwick and the final positions were sorted. In the Grand Final Ty Geertsen bounced out of grid one with McMillan in second followed by Gentle and Chadwick giving each a few nudges. Chadwick slipped slightly which allowed Gentle to attack McMillan on the inside and take second place. Although Pudney and Priest did not compete the field was still a 'top of the range' quality field.
Final placings: 1st Ty Geertsen, 2nd Matt Gentle, 3rd Bobby McMillan, 4th Cody Chadwick
FLYING JARVIS FASTEST DOWN UNDER - posted 14 February 2010
The points meeting at LeFevre drew a good field, the seniors being boosted by Salisbury's Cody Chadwick, Ty Walters and the Bax brothers, Findon's Bobby McMillan and tourist Carl Jarvis. This required two seperate groups and even then several races were started with seven riders!
Equally as good to note was the amount of youngsters taking part. This seems to be an area of the sport where the Aussies win hands down over the Brits, having different grades for different sized bikes. Whatever the secret is, junior racing is very strong here.
The benefit of computerised timing was demonstrated by the highly competitive flying timed lap event. Every rider has two attempts at setting a time, Jarvis setting the season's target of 9.72 followed by Cameron Crisp on 9.76 and Chadwick on 9.82.
JOEL CHADWICK IN UNBEATABLE FORM IN FINDON CLASSIC - posted 7 February 2010
Whilst yesterday it was Cody who took out the major award at Le Fevre, today it was brother Joel who rode to a faultless five ride maximum at Findon. Despite the 35c heat, the total field gave the large attendance a display of excellent racing. The minor placings required a run off and home based Ross Priest just had the edge on Cody Chadwick as they took the chequered flag. Carl Jarvis, although suffering from the heat conditions, proved his undoubted ability when in the early stages he passed World champion Daniel Pudney to gain a valuable three points. Polish visitor Aleksander Zielinski impressed in his early heats but a back injury saw him withdraw from the later stage of the event. There is no doubt that this series has captured the attention of both competitors and spectators and hopefully will attract further riders from the Northern Hemisphere who would consider a few weeks "Down Under " in early 2011.
Joel Chadwick 20, Ross Priest 17, Cody Chadwick 17, Paul White 16 Lee Collins 15, Cameron Crisp 15, Carl Jarvis 14, Daniel Pudney 13, Bobby McMillan 13, Daniel Bax 11, Brad Hoppo 10, Ryan Edson 10, Nigel Greenhalgh 9, Jason Hardy 7, Aleksander Zielinski 6, Gabby Aston 5
Postscript UK tourist Carl Jarvis trained with Salisbury on Tuesday. The session only lasted an hour but Carl told spokesman-online it was easily the hardest session he had ever done, which is probably part of Aussies' secret. They are very fit and determined.
CHADWICK TAKES OPENING 'CLASSIC' - posted 6 February 2010
Despite the non-appearance of several invited competitors, the opening Classic event at Le Fevre today produced an afternoon of competitive racing.
From the start it became very obvious that World champion Daniel Pudney and Cody Chadwick would dominate the senior event and after four unbeaten rides each they met in the vital heat 17. Chadwick had the favoured inside gate position and led from start to finish to take the major award. However a three rider run off was required to decide the minor podium positions and it was the impressive Carl Jarvis who took advantage of drawing gate two and left in turn Ryan Edson and Cameron Crisp trailing after the first lap.
Cody Chadwick 20, Daniel Pudney 19, Carl Jarvis 16, Ryan Edson 16, Cameron Crisp 16, Paul White 15, Bobby McMillen 15, Daniel Bax 12, Nigel Greenhalgh 11, Rob Fleming 10, Shane Bentley 10, Jason Hardy 10, Mark Sheldon 10, Kieran Rutter 7, Gabby Aston 6, Lucy Millikin 6
BENTLEY SUPREME IN JUNIOR CLASSIC - posted 6 February 2010
Findon's Shane Bentley completed five unbeaten heats and then the grand final to capture the opening junior Classic event. Murraylands hot prospect Patrick Evans was a worthy runner-up whilst Braydon Clarke and Matt Bryant completed to awards quartet.
Shane Bentley 20, Patrick Evans 19, Braydon Clarke 13, Matt Bryant 15, Todd Clarke 13, Christopher Mowbray 13, Ebony Clarke 12, Shiranta Ashton 12, Shane Hoogmead 10, Jack Norman 10, Accacia Pride 7, Angel Conaro 5
TAPES UP AT FINDON - posted 4 February 2010
Findon got their 2010 season off to a good start with a well supported meeting on Sunday, many of the graded races having seven or eight riders lining up at the tapes.
Shane Bentley looked impressive all afternoon and is surely a name to watch for in the future whilst the A grade races provided plenty of interesting encounters with much battling from the back for those on grid seven!
Our pic shows heat one of the A grade races with Bobby McMillan, Carl Jarvis, Cody Chadwick and Matt Gentle showing strongly but all chasing the back wheel of Nigel Greenhalgh.
