REFEREE SNAKES AND LADDERS - posted 14 March 2010
The recently published Cycle Speedway Directory 2010 shows major changes in refereeing gradings this year. While grading changes have been minimal, there has been some significant movement.
Newcomers Mike Legge and and Pete Ward join an elite group of eight A class international referees while Pete Dalley, Brian Eaton, Richard Hughes are promoted to second tier A national ranking. Meanwhile Terry Ashford and Ian Sizer lose their coveted international status.
Encouragingly 118 referees are listed this year compared with 102 last year. a healthy 15% increase.
NEW REFEREE DIRECTIVES - posted 25 February 2010
A number of referee directives have been announced by referees' manager Mike Hack. These include
Extra Time Allowances Riders who have two races in succession in a team event, shall now receive three minutes allowance, before the referee blows his whistle to signify that riders have one minute to reach the rest line.
Lapped Riders In second team or combination fixtures, where under-10s are riding against older competitors, there shall be no exclusion of under-10s being lapped, provided they are adjudged not to be interfering with the race. Riders must complete the full race laps for points to be awarded. It is the responsibility of the team manager to ensure that the match referee is aware of riders eligible under this provision.
Amended Referee's Report Form The referee's report form has been amended to ensure that League Recorders are provided with more information about the promotion of the event.
Match Day Reports Referees are reminded of the requirement to complete the amended referee's report form for each match that they officiate, and to forward it to the appropriate League Recorder or to the Cycle Speedway Co-ordinator. Referees are also reminded of the need to fully complete the form and to report details of any incidents, whether directly witnessed or not by them.
Clubs are reminded of the requirement to complete a Referees' Assessment form for each match that they compete in, and to forward it to the appropriate League Recorder or to the Cycle Speedway Co-ordinator.
REFS TRAINING DAY ON SUNDAY - posted 5 January 2010
The re-arranged South West Regional Referees' training course will take place this forthcoming Sunday (10th January), starting at 12 noon, in the Poole Clubhouse. All existing, new and interested referees are strongly urged to attend this course. They are requested to notify the Course Facilitator, Graham Sutton, as soon as possible, so that the appropriate number of course handouts and refreshments can be provided.
37 REFEREES ATTEND COURSES - posted 9 December 2009
This year's regional cycle speedway referees' training courses took place on Sunday 6th December.
Best turn-out was at the Manchester Velodrome for the Northern and Scottish region, which saw 17 course participants from all seven clubs in the region. It was pleasing to report that there were several new and young referees in attendance. The South East course attracted 11 participants to Great Blakenham, whilst nine attended the Midlands course at Wednesfield.
All three facilitators - Mike Hack, Terry Ashford, Bob Prince - reported a good course taking place, with plenty of issues debated in a positive manner.
The only disappointment was that the South West course, scheduled to be held at Poole, was postponed by the facilitator Graham Sutton, on Friday, after just four people had booked in for the course. The matter is now with the South West Regional Committee, to arrange a re-staging of this important event.
