In the early Seventies, the name Eric Abbott was synonymous with producing regional cycle speedway magazines.
Sadly Eric died about ten years ago. Now, a decade on, his widow Mary has been having a clear out of her loft and has found four boxes of speedway magazines, books and programmes which go back to the early Seventies although there are also some cycle speedway publications as well. Mary is keen offload these but is reluctant to go through the process of selling them on eBay. However Mary wondered if any Spokesman readers may be interested in purchasing what appears to be a wonderful speedway collection.

Following a last-minute bidding frenzy, a rare copy of 50 Years of Cycle Speedway has been saved for the nation.
The successful bidder was former Commission chairman Dave Hunting who paid a record £65 for the publication.
Now Dave intends to deposit the publication in the national cycle speedway archive at Warwick University. It is the second copy Dave has secured in recent weeks. The other publication is expected to be housed in the VCSRAs archive.

The purchaser of a rare copy of 50 Years of Cycle Speedway has paid what is believed to be the highest ever price for a cycle speedway publication.
The successful bid for the book, described on eBay as being in excellent condition, was a remarkable £64.60 including postage.
Bids for a rare copy of '50 Years of Cycle Speedway' have soared after we published a story about the sale on our Sales and Wants page.
From an initial bid of £9.99, bids have rocketed to over £40 and show no signs of stopping as interest in the book spirals.
Recent sales suggest that the successful bidder will have to be prepared to part with the best part of £50 plus postage before they can secure the book which is described as being in excellent condition.
'50 Years' was published in 1996 to commemorate cycle speedways fiftieth anniversary. It is believed only a few hundred copies of the short-run book was published adding to its scarcity and value. Considered the definitive book on the sport, cycle speedways bible is highly prized by owners, so copies rarely come up for sale.
A copy of the most sought-after cycle speedway book ever published is on sale on Ebay. Surprisingly no one has made a bid on the rare edition of 50 Years of Cycle Speedway which was published in 1996 to commemorate the sports golden jubilee. Reader Wil Bristowe has a black and blue bike for sale. The frame is in black and is 2011 style but was bought in 2012, whereas the wheels are double wall, painted in blue.
The bike comes with everything you need, blue chain, blue chainring bolts, 'Stolen' white stem, 108.9 freewheel Wil told Spokesman.

Wednesfield legend has two bike bags for sale. The first is a black Archie Wilkinson bike bag in very condition. Roger is looking for £45 for this bag. The second is a blue bag which has been used a few times but is ok. The asking price for this bag is £25.

Northumbria Cycle Speedway club are desperate for a 20ft container, preferably in grey but we can paint if needed said Gavin.
At present we don't have a great deal of funds to pay for one so if any business people could help a club in need please get in touch as soon as possible. We have just spent £21k on the new purpose built track so club funds are a little stretched at present. We have secured a grant which will bring the club eight new bikes to be used by youth riders but we don't have anywhere to house them explained Gavin
