VETS GEAR UP FOR LONDON OLD MASTERS - posted 1 September 2011

The latest Eurovets GP takes place at the East London track in Canning town this Saturday, 3rd September, from 1pm.

With competition hotting up for the final four GPs, Wednesfield’s Mark Griffiths only leads home favourite Denis Hubble by two points whilst third place is similary close between East London's Steve Woodroof and the evergreen Colin Wheeler.

Denis also leads the over-50s from Woodroof but Fred Rothwell and Colin again contest the third spot but could be caught with improved performances from Kevin Smith and Sandwell’s Phil Hemmings. Fred controls the over-60s at present from Wheeler but Scottish duo Dave Baxter and Chic Mackie are closely separated in the battle for bronze.

With last year’s 60s winner missing, some earlier ties Les Stevens along with Dave Tulloch will increase the temperature in that class’s GP finals. Likewise usual podium man at East London, Norman Venson, also want’s to make up for missed matches earlier. With other top vets expected to attend the field will no doubt be completed by other East London vets and similar from former South-East clubs present.

The actual London Old Masters shield, presently held by Mark Griffiths, will be awarded to the top scoring rider in the actual 20 heat individual prior to the three-class A&B  GP finals.

Although it will be on a far lower presentation scale than last weekend’s British Finals in Norwich or the over 50’60s at Edinburgh the week before, the LOM is usually the highest class Vets match of the season and will still attract the biggest cycle speedway audience of the year for the Prince Regent Lane track in the nation’s capital city.
