NOWACKI TAKES WORLD CROWN - posted 26 April 2011

After a run off with fellow countryman Rafel Dulinski, Leicester
based Lukasz Nowacki captured the 2011 World senior individual
title.  Former champion Daniel Pudney defeated Joel Chadwick
in a run off for third place.   Andy Angell and Lee Aris, both on thirteen
points after four rides, failed to add to their score with Angell suffering
an exclusion for stopping the race and Aris unable to finish after falling.
Veteran Steve Harris would have been pleased with his sixth place overall but only two points from his inside gate perhaps cost him a minor podium position.

JOEL WITH A MAXIMUM - posted 26 April 2011

The World junior individual crown remained in Australia when Joel
Chadwick took out the 2011 event with a faultless maximum
scoreline.  Patryk Piechota for Poland looked a class act for the future
with eighteen points whilst Dan Chambers fully deserved his third
placing.  However the most unlucky rider of the day was Aaron Morgan
who was on the receiving end of an untimely incident with Joe Kemp
which failed to attract the attention of ICSF referee Steve Copping.
Without doubt this cost Morgan a place on the podium.  But on a more
positive note USA competitor Cody Eaves was worthy of his thirteen points and in turn a mid field placing.

A brilliant event that was full of incidents saw the Australians take
out their second World title of the 2011 series after a run off with Poland.

An early race exclusion for Joel Chadwick followed by Andy Angell also
receiving his marching orders from ICSF-appointed referee Bob Prince left Poland firmly in the driving seat.  However a fighting comeback from the Australians gave them the opportunity of a run off after 15 heats.

From the favoured inside gates Daniel Pudney gained the win with Joel Chadwick taking the important third place and in turn victory.  England would have been disappointed with their third place but the "big one" is on Sunday.

AUSTRALIA RETAIN WORLD JUNIOR PAIRS - updated report posted 23 April

Australia and England closely contested the World Junior Pairs Championship at Edenton, USA with the Aussies retaining their title via a tense race-off after both teams finished on 35 points from the scheduled heats.

Australia held a three point lead before an exclusion to their star rider, Joel Chadwick, allowed England to sneak a two point margin with four races remaining.  Then Poland's Patryk Piechota significantly held off the English pair, of Aaron Morgan and Leyton Glover, but he was later unable to stop the Australian pair taking the crucial points which allowed them to draw level.

The race-off was determined using a 4-3-2-0 scoring system which places the onus on team riding for second and third positions.  England won the toss and took grids one and three, allowing Dan Chambers to win from the inside grid. However, the Aussies were able to team-ride with Chadwick coming from the outside grid to join Walters and secure the all important minor placings.

England will be looking to gain revenge against strong Australian and Polish opposition in the World Senior Pairs event on Saturday as the build up continues towards Sunday's World team Cup Finals at Edenton Cycle Speedway in North Carolina.

HEARD DOMINATES NORTH CAROLINA OPEN - posted 19 April 2011

A faultless five rides gave Paul Heard the title from fellow countryman
Aaron Morgan with Australian veteran Paul White in the minor podium position.  Brad Hoppo took advantage of an additional meeting and his sixteen points gave him overall fourth place.

From an original entry of 14, three riders dropped out, namely Roger
Brickhouse (injured), Chad White and Neil Toye (not due in America unitl Wednesday). so British riders Paul Heard,Arron Morgan and Lee Kemp stepped in as did Australians Brad Hoppo and Paul White.

There was a worrying incident in heat 13 when Lee Kemp, on the second of his two grid ones, took a nasty fall just before half distance, earning an exclusion. He picked himself up from this and duly won his final ride in heat 18.

Steve Copping was disappointed with his score, his cause not helped that he took a heavy fall whilst practising at Gates County the previous day.

The meeting saw a welcome return to racing for USA junior Cody Eaves and there is no doubt his performance will improve as the
Championships progress.
