GB JERSEYS ARRIVE – posted 25 November 2013

The ill-fated Great Britain international race jerseys have finally arrived in Australia – just days before the World championships ended!

And to add insult to injury, organisers Down Under had to pay a whopping A$380 custom charge before the jerseys could be released.

DUTCH AUCTION RAISES A$235 – posted 23 November 2013

Norman Venson raised a staggering A$235 in between today’s junior and senior finals by holding a Dutch auction all in aid of the EuroVets Orchid cancer appeal
.

The highest bid secured an Orchids t-shirt signed by all the EuroVets Down Under plus today’s newly crowned world champions. A great achievement Norman!

JACOB MOVING UP THE LADDER – posted 21 November 2013

Young Jacob Soper is having the tour of a lifetime in Adelaide, reaping the benefits of a year's hard work on and off the track.

With great support from the Newport club, sponsors and in particular Stuart Raven and Tony Bennett, Jacob had gone through a tough training regime on the track and in the gym prior to the Oz.

After comfortably qualifying for the junior World individual finals earlier this week, he also qualified for the senior Individuals too as one of the two highest non-qualifiers. In both competitions, he is delighted to have progressed further than a number of the older riders, showing them that he is an upcoming force to be reckoned with.

Whilst happy to reach the latter
stages of the 2013 competitions, the 15-year-old must have his sights set on the next Worlds in the UK in 2015, where he will still race as a junior.

"Keep up the hard work Jacob, and good luck for the last few days of the
tour!" said a club spokesman.

WILKIE BLOW – posted 20 November 2013

Andrew Wilkie’s hopes of reaching the World individual final were smashed, literally, after the Australian rider broke his leg in a skateboard fall earlier in the week.

JETTY-JUMPING AT GLENELG – posted 14 November 2013

The GB junior squad, under the ever watchful eye of team manager Ivan Pike, celebrated their victory last night by jetty-jumping off the pier at Glenelg beach.

Not to be outdone by the boys, dare-devil Lauren Hookway proved that the girls
can do it too!

SUN GOD – posted 14 November 2013

Stuart Raven is now nicknamed the sun god after spending hours laid out in the sun.

The GB coach had to endure being buried in the sand, hit by flying volleyballs and constant ribbing from the rest of camp.

He does not use any kind of factor cream.  Instead prefers to be covered virgin olive oil (don’t try this at home kids!).  It has been said he would make the perfect barbecue.

WOMEN'S PIN-UP – posted 14 November 2013

The women's team have mastered the art of pinning numbers on.

KANGAROO STEAKS AT TRENDY HOTEL – posted 11 November 2013

The GB senior squad prepared for the individual eliminations with kangaroo steaks at the trendy Ramsgate hotel on the redeveloped Henley beach.  Let's hope no one jumps at the start tonight.

EXTRA RACING FOR BRITS – posted 10 November 2013

Findon very kindly agreed to put on a scratch test between the GB campsite and an Australian select team mainly made up of senior riders.  It proved a great workout for all those looking for a bit extra racing before the individuals start - so big thank you to the guys at Findon for agreeing to race the guys.

Murraylands have agreed to race the guys next Sunday and both LeFevere and Salisbury are looking to squeeze extra matches in.

MURPHY ON THE MOVE – posted 10 November 2013

Poor old Dave Murphy had a bad day at LeFevre on Friday night when he moved at the tapes, not once but twice, including actually breaking them in his last ride.  Fortunately he was allowed to continue at the back of the grid.

VIDEO REPLAYS – posted 10 November 2013

Ace video cameraman Steve Copping is doing a sterling job recording and editing all the action Down Under.  No doubt his DVDs will be in great demand when the tourists arrive home.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEYTON – posted 10 November 2013

Leyton Glover was observed at Findon earlier today celebrating his 19th birthday but under the watchful eyes of senior members of the Poole club management bearing in mind his World senior individual qualifying round on Monday. Best of luck tomorrow!

AFTER TWO HUNDRED YARDS TURN RIGHT – posted 9 November 2013

After a long day of ferrying riders around and making sure all the juniors got to the right tracks for their qualifying rounds, GB women’s captain Vicky Brown finally returned to the campsite tired and exhausted - and parked outside the wrong cabin!

The car Vicky was driving, affectionately known as Mitzy, kindly loaned by Aussie kingpin Mick Harley, has become something of a tour mascot!

WONDERFUL MEMORIES – posted 6 November 2013

Oz tours are more about just the racing.  They are a time to forge strong bonds and friendships, many of which last a lifetime.  As we were trawling through our archive we came across this vintage pic from an earlier tour featuring (left to right) John Whiting, the late Dave Blinston, Dave Baxter, Rob Marchant, Josh Gleave, Steve Harvie and the late Harry Gliover.  Wonderful memories of tours and people goneby.
