RAWICZ TO REFORM – posted 31 August 2013

Poole’s Artur Poprawski is the driving force behind a project to reform Polish club, Rawicz.

With the circuit and surrounds in reasonable condition, Poprawski has enlisted the help of former club coach Henri Wlodarczyk to launch a major recruitment campaign. Poprawski has recently been successful in his application as a PE teacher at the town’s junior school which in turn could aid the project.

OSTROW MOVE UP LEAGUE TABLE – posted 25 June 2013

There were comfortable home wins for Leszno, Torun and Ostrow in round seven of the Polish League as all three victors collected additional bonus points as a result of their margins of victory.

While the top two positions in the table remained unchanged, Ostrow jump above Czestochowa into fourth place just a point behind Swietochlowice who saw their silver medal aspirations severely dented.  Poole's Wil Bristowe scored six points on his debut for Gniezno who were without all their regular big names for their visit to table toppers Torun.  Pawel Cegielski and Rafal Dulinski stepped aside for the hosts but they still had plenty to spare.

Pawel Idziorek collected the lot for Ostrow, reeling off five straight wins against Swietochlowice before preparing to return to the UK. Sheffield will be hoping he can pull off a similar feat in next Sunday's big top of the table clash at Poole. Artur Poprawski made a rare appearance for the home side and restricted himself to three starts while Poole stablemate Steve Harris provided the only effective backup for Kamil Belica in the visiting attack.

Polish League racing takes its traditional summer break now until the remaining five rounds resume on 8th September.  With recent temperatures above 30 degrees, its probably just as well.

TORUN MOVE CLOSER TO TITLE – posted 18 June 2013

Torun took a step closer to the Polish League title, not so much as a result of their expected comfortable home win against Ostrow but following events in the South of the country where Swietochlowice emerged with the points after a close fought affair with 2012 champions Leszno.

Despite the absence of Steve Harris who was on duty for Poole at Hull, Swietochlowice edged home in the closing heats having lead 59-58 after 12 heats. Kamil Bielica held off the challenge of Matiej Ganczarek in heat 13 to put the hosts three points up and when Jamroszyzck picked up an exclusion in heat 14 followed by another for fellow Leszno rider Michal Sassak in the penultimate heat, it was game over for the visitors despite a race win for their big Szymanski/Ganczarek pairing in the final race of the day.

Elsewhere, Poole bound Arek Szymanski carried the fight almost single-handedly for Gniezno at Czestochowa where he dropped just one point in six starts. Robert Bandosz continues his good run of form despite his stringent UK ban while Radek Hanke made his first 2013 appearance for the home side with a 12 point contribution.

Sheffield team mate Pawel Idziorek knocked in a similar score for Ostrow against Torun where the home side were at full strength to avenge their away defeat. Przemyslaw Binkowski had a better day against these opponents with five straight wins - in marked contrast to the 9 he managed in the away match!

LESZNO RETAIN PAIRS TITLE – posted 9 June 2013

The Polish Best Pairs championship staged at Zielona Gora was a close run affair with Leszno holding on to the trophy by a single point ahead of their great rivals Torun with the result in doubt right up to the closing heats.

This is always regarded as a high profile event in Poland, reflected in the quality of the field which lined up to compete with all the big names in action and the closeness of the scoreline from top to bottom.

TITLE RACE WIDE OPEN – posted 4 June 2013

The big result from Sunday's round five matches from the Polish League was a first defeat of the season for top of the table Torun at the hands of Ostrow which means that the title race is again wide open with Leszno tasting victory at the expense of Swietochlowice by a comfortable margin.

Torun soon found themselves trailing by 11 points and although they got their act together and pulled the deficit back to three points at one stage, Ostrow used their home track advantage to good effect to keep their noses in front and record their best result of the season. Torun may have been disappointed to lose this one but their victory at Leszno on the opening day of the season may still be the deciding factor in the title race.

Marcin Szymanski was declared fit after his recent injury and took his place in a full strength Leszno side who may find that will have to complete a double over Sunday’s opponent's in round six on June 16th if they are to stand a chance of holding on to the title. Some of the support riders for the Leszno "big two" of Szymanski and Ganczarek are starting to show improvement of late but they are probably still short of championship form at present.

Meanwhile at the other end of the table, Gniezno picked up their first points of the season when Czestochowa were the visitors, hoping for their first away win of the year. It was a close contest with Remi Burchardt troubling all the home riders but the hosts had the better balanced side and kept their nerve and used their considerable home track advantage for a well earned two points.

TORUN SWEEP ASIDE OPPOSITION – posted 28 May 2013

Round four match outcomes all followed the form book in Poland at the weekend with league leaders Torun sweeping aside the opposition at Gniezno with Arek Szymanski the only home rider to give the visitors any serious problems. Ostrow might have been expected to run Slask a little closer but there were subdued performances from Bartosz Grabowski and Artur Poprawski on a track which is notoriously difficult for visiting riders.

The match-up between Czestochowa and Leszno was the most evenly balanced of the day largely due to to the absence of Marcin Szymanski who was forced to sit this one out due to a training injury. Just a point separated the sides after 14 heats but the visitors finished strongly with Matiej Ganczarek rounding it all off nicely for the defending champions in heat 16 with a well executed pass on his old adversary, Robert Bandosz.

STEVE HARRIS TOPS SWIETOLOWICE SCORECHART – posted 21 May 2013

While top two clubs Torun and Leszno were chalking up big home wins at the expense of Czestochowa and Ostrow, a close result was expected at Gniezno where the contrasting fortunes of two riders with Poole connections proved decisive. Steve Harris topped the scorechart for Swietolowice who picked up a valuable away win to strengthen their hopes of a top two place while Michel Nowak could only muster a disappointing seven points on his first match for the Eagles since his return home.

WINS FOR TORUN AND LESZNO – posted 7 May 2013

Scheduled to be ridden on April 7th, the first round of Polish League matches was postponed en bloc because of snow and ridden on May 5th when Torun completed their expected comfortable home win against Swietolowice (91-66) and champions Leszno came away from improving Gniezno with both league points (75-83).

The closest encounter was at Czestochowa where the title aspirations of Ostrow took a nose-dive after a rather ill-tempered affair which saw the home side spring a surprise four point victory with new signing Robert Bandosz contributing nine points. Artur Poprawski made his debut for Ostrow and managed just one race win in his eight point total.

UPSET ON POLISH LEAGUE OPENING DAY - posted 22 April

On the opening day of the Polish League season, there was a major upset when 2012 runners-up Torun came away from reigning champions Leszno with the league points after a narrow two point victory.

The home side lined up with their big two, Marcin Szymanski and Maciej Ganczarek back in the fold after eleventh hour doubts about their potential inclusion and they played their part with 19 and 17 points respectively. However, their middle order which included Chris Timms and Ben Mould could not match the more solid performance of the visitors who could already have one hand on the league trophy after just 18 races of the new season!  It was Torun’s first ever victory at Leszno.

SNOWED-OFF – posted 1 April 2013

Round one Polish League matches due to be ridden on 7th April have all been re-scheduled for May 5th as winter persists across the country with deep snow in many places.

If conditions improve sufficiently, it is hoped to go ahead with the round two matches due for April 21st headlined by the clash between 2012's top two clubs and arch rivals, champions Leszno and runners up Torun. Speculation is suggesting that Marcin Szymanski and Maciej Ganczarek may not be lining up for Leszno this season although the situation is unclear at present.

SNOWSKI – posted 16 March 2013

A fresh fall of 6" of snow and sub-zero temperatures in Poland did not stop
European champion Marcin Szymanski and his Leszno team mate Maciej Ganczarek from an improvised pre-season training workout in a nearby Wroclaw park this week.

Back in the warmth of his apartment, Marcin has been busy completing orders for his new Du Vivo junior bikes with five more, including a 16" wheel version, shortly to be shipped over following successful trials of the first two at Poole.

THREE CLUBS PULL OUT OF POLISH LEAGUE – posted 25 February 2013

Three clubs have dropped out of the 2013 Polish League leaving just six teams to contest this year’s competition.

The official PFKS website announced yesterday that Kalety, Zielona Gora and Zoledowo will be missing from the 2012 line-up. Gniezno will re-enter the league after a one year absence while champions Leszno, Torun, Swietochlowice, Czestochowa and Ostrow are back in action.

There were hopes that a combined team drawn from Zoledowo and Bydgoszcz could be agreed but it came to nothing.

It has been suggested that financial issues have helped to arrived at the current situation which is in marked contrast to the 2011 season when 11 clubs entered and were split into two sections. Line-ups for the three regional competitions have yet to be announced.
